It was built for the Space Physics Laboratory with the purpose of conducting solar research.<a href=\"https:\/\/bollerandchivens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/aerospace2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1908\" title=\"aerospace2\" src=\"https:\/\/bollerandchivens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/aerospace2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bollerandchivens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/aerospace2.jpg 320w, https:\/\/bollerandchivens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/aerospace2-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Boller and Chivens Designed, manufactured and installed a special 24-inch Vacuum Solar Telescope coupled to a Spectroheliograph for Aerospace Corporation for it\u2019s San Fernando Observatory.<br \/>\nDon Winans and Bill DeBoynton of Boller and Chivens installed and tested the telescope and the Spectroheliograph.<br \/>\nThe 6.6 magnitude Selmar earthquake sheared the attachment bolts of the telescope base to the observatory\u2019s concrete floor.\u00a0 Fortunately the observatory dome structure restrained the telescope from toppling over. After resetting the telescopes base attachments and realignment was made, the telescope was finally put into operation.
